Alright so...
For 3 days straight now I have been wondering whether or not I should give myself Havana Twists, get a wig or just wear my hair out!! I have been so lazy and my hair is SO THICK I haven't been taking the time to style it. i have been wearing turbans for a week. No maintenance at all. It sucks. So I have been looking all over the internets in order to figure out what I want to do with my hair!! I have been looking at Havana's cause they seem the easiest to do - without having to pay someone else to do it - and its within my Student Life Budget! so - I have been thinking on it. I have been thinking long and hard for 4 days. I may even come to a decision! The best technique that I found was actually from a vlogger by the account of: GodCallsMeBeloved - I always found it so hard to figure out the situation of how to get it to work for me. So her tutorial was the best for my comprehension of the Havana Twists situation. Maybe I will find out my technique on the way and do a video.
I am also thinking about doing protective styles for the rest of the damn year. Document the process - and the growth. I need to have my hair off my to-do list for a while. That's all. My hair grew a lot when I always out braids in my hair every couple months. So I may just need to do that again.
Decisions, Decisionsssssssss
I will let you know - obviously....
Peace!
Today my sister tagged along with me to my university for the freshman orientation. No, I'm not a freshman. But I was a photographer for the event where we set up a makeshift photo booth and took photos of the new fresh faces.
It was my very first time with all this so I offered my little sister volunteer hours for the tag along. Haha!
...
...
She arrived in the morning and then we headed downtown to meet up with my Team Leader you could say. She was organizing the whole endeavour and it was her idea...so.
To be honest I knew how to position the equipment but not how to but the equipment all together so it was quite an experience. I guess I'm not too good at faking it to make it at times.
However the photos came out beautifully and it was fun!
Afterwards my sister and I walked downtown and gor some bubble tea. I tried Red Bean milk tea for the first time today and I really loved it! If only it was colder. ..next time I will get a slush version. Loved it though. Tasted sorta like an iced latte from Starbucks without the coffee taste. Which is wonderful!
My phone died so my ability to take photos couldn't happen. Unfortunately. ..
My sis got me a cute long sleeve & a red circle scarf which was very soft and warm. Bith were only 10 bucks at the Black Market store in downtown Toronto. Across from the muchmusic building.
Then we went home, on our way it rained and poured and we were soaked...right when we got to the front door the rain stopped...so...we were not impressed. To say the least.
Came home. Listened to music and ate Concord grapes. My favorite grape ever!
...
Plans for the rest of night would be to wash this rain water outta my hair and take a much needed shower.
Peace & Random Kendo!
I was with a friend the other afternoon and we were talking and perusing the mall, when she had told me that she had bought a pair of VS athletic shorts for 50$..because she was pressured by a friend (who I used to be friends with - so I could totally understand what she was saying). She had said that whenever they go out to the mall all together, this friend always makes her feel cheap because she is always splurging on really expensive things like MK, Juicy Couture, Burberry and the like..so my friend was feeling pressured to also buy something that was pretty expensive and a waste of her cash just so she wouldn't feel so sub-par. I know how she feels because...well I used to be in the same situation. I was barely pressured to buy - but I would definitely feel very cheap. I didn't bother saying much other than: "I understand, cause I have been there too.". My friend wanted to return the shorts (which I guess she did Saturday, since she wanted to do it ASAP)...
I know that it isn't as easy as saying "I don't like going out shopping with her because of X, Y &Z", but it isn't healthy if you have a "friend" who makes you feel cheap. It's either you are jealous or they are overdoing it. & I know she isn't jealous, I have been there and I know that due to this person's insecurities - she tends to overcompensate with her lux garments and lux life that she seems to be living. I just feel somewhat sorry for those people who can no longer love themselves enough to do what they want without making others feel worthless. But I guess the saying is: "Turn Down For WHAAA?!" ..or something?
Well, conspicuous consumption will do that to you... sometimes if you can't see through it you end up feeling "basic" beside someone like that. However, I can see right through it...and thus, I was never pressured that much.
WELP!
Just had to get that off my chest.
Peace.
SO!
I am at it again.
I made this because, when I was younger I remembered that I used to love slapping condensed milk onto my grapefruit chunks and eating it as a snack. Sounds kinda gross, I know - but tastes super good! Haha. So here's the details on that:
WHAT YOU NEED:
A big juicy grapefruit.
Vanilla Flavoured Nutrament (or soy milk, or ensure or boost....)
Vanilla Extract
Condensed Milk
A blender or a Magic Bullet .
PREPARATION:
Cut the Grapefruit in half and scoop out the flesh and throw the flesh into the blender or bullet.
Add your desired amount of Vanilla flavoured Nutrament or Milky goodness.
BLEND IT UP.
Then add desired amount of condensed milk and 3 drops of vanilla extract.
Mix it together and then serve!
HERE IS A VIDEO OF THE PROCESS IF YOU ARE A VISUAL LEARNER LIKE I AM!!
Hope you enjoy the drink you made!
It's super easy and inexpensive to make, so it totally fits into the student budget.
Also, NUTRAMENT is a vitamin-y drink - you know a skimmed milk drink that contains vitamins and minerals. Along the lines of Boost and Ensure - so it's also pretty great for your health as well. So try it in the morning with breakfast or on the go in the middle of the day!
ENJOY!
Peace.
Sometimes I bounce between one genre to another and some artists to others... I always tend to revisit them later for nostalgic purposes - or I just heard they have new music. I have always had Bat For Lashes in my iTunes and iPod. Whether I will be listening to the music often, I make sure I have my favourite songs in there. So today I revisited
some BAT FOR LASHES. I found the music A LONG TIME AGO. Like, 2009 or something - who knows? I can't remember. Sometimes when I revisit some songs or artists I remember things I like about them and why I liked them and where I was in my life at the time I enjoyed their music. Unlike many artists I used to like in my freshmen high school year, Natasha Khan hasn't changed her approach to music at all.
I have just listened to the most recent album "The Haunted Man" & I will state that I am still a fan of Natasha Khan and the her approach to music. If you are wondering about the background info on this artist: Natasha Khan goes by the stage name " Bat For Lashes" and is a Pakistani/English singer-songwriter from London. The first song I ever heard from her was "Daniel" and from then on I got caught up with her previous works and onward. She hadn't released a new album until 2012 from 2009. So I guess I just didn't think she was up to a lot. Though now I do see that she had been touring with Coldplay and such - so she was crazy busy.
If you like artists like Coldplay, Radiohead, Bjork, Cat Power, Annie Lennox and the like - you will quite possibly fall in love with BFL. Cause... I love Bjork ...and I would definitely put these two in a playlist together.
What I am listening to right now from the new album?
Wanna hear the new album?!
My Faves
I will be grabbing this new album for sure.
PEACE!

Good. Great. Fantastic..
So anyway people – I have been trying to vlog but have been super tired and can’t get the energy to really do what I gots to do. So I decided to just do this instead..
PRODUCT REVIEW!!
So, I bought some of these from Sally’s and some from Shoppers Drug Mart (equivalent to Walgreens or something in USA) – and made it a mission of sorts to get Argan Oil in most of the products I picked up. On Tuesday I washed my dry, damaged and literally unkempt hair and the next day – though my bantu-knot-out didnt come out the way I had hoped - my hair was EXTREMELY SOFT and healthy looking. So let’s go ahead:
1. PROCLAIM INTENSE MOISTURIZING SHAMPOO:
Love this shampoo! It’s everything it says it is!
I was sort of hesitant about it cause well – I used a protein hair mask from them and it really wasn’t all that great. I wasn’t sure what I did wrong or what, but it wasn’t the greatest ever….at all.
However, this shampoo is AMAZING and I am pretty sure I have found a holy grail Shampoo. Which is quite new. Before this I had been using Kinky Curly’s Come Clean Shampoo – which is a great clarify and doesn’t strip my hair of any natural oils…but my hair is extremely dry at times and the last few months I had been stressed out and not taking care of my hair and skin – thus my hair was also damaged! So I needed more than “not stripping my natural oils..” I needed MOISTURE!
The Proclaim Intense Moisturizing Shampoo is awesome for that. It definetely clarifies – leaving my scalp clean of build up and my strands clear and healthy looking – all the while adding intense moisturizer! My hair was soft and manageable for 3 whole days – with JUST THE SHAMPOO. As in NO Conditioner and NO leave-in and NO Hair Lotions and NO Butters….just the shampoo alone.

2. MARC ANTHONY TRUE PROFESSIONAL CONDTIONER
Alright so when it comes to conditioners I always really love having SLIP&MANAGEABLITY. Those are the two deal breakers for me. Prior to this conditioner I had been using Aussie Moist Conditioner – it has HEAVY SLIPPAGE and makes me hair very easy to comb in the shower. This MARC ANTHONY conditioner is a little tricky.. It did something I haven’t had a condioner (other than Mixed Chicks – which was used on me at a Salon) to make my curls POP when I came out of the shower. However, the slip was pretty weak. Yet my hair looked very defined and healthy out of the shower. I am slightly confused on it…
Buy it again?
Maybe not.

3. GARNIER FRUCTIS LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER
It’s good. I mean – it really isn’t anything exciting and I am probably going to try a different leave-in once I am finished with this one, however it does what it’s supposed to do. It definitely combats frizz and leaves my hair sleek and shiny. I applied it and raked it through my wet hair and left it in for about 15 minutes. It was really slippery – but I would’nt use it daily. I would only use it after a big wash day or a co-wash…that is all though.
Buy it again?
Nah…

3. DESIGN ESSENTIALS NATURAL DAILY MOISTURIZING LOTION
This was really one of those things where I was in need of moisture and would go as far as picking something up – that I have never heard of before – in order to achieve results. Thank goodness I looked at the back. It is SILICON FREE, MINERAL OIL FREE, PARABEN FREE, PARAFFIN FREE, & PETROLEUM FREE! Has an array of natural oils and great natural ingredients inside and I AM HAPPY WITH THIS PRODUCT. The only thing I don’t appreciate is the fact that it’s so slippery and sticks to your hands to where you have to be wiping your hands all over the towel for 3 minutes in order to LIVE! That is the only annoyance.. however it is definitely a moisturizing lotion that can be used daily on wet or dry hair. I used it on my damp hair and it penetrated my strands and left them really soft. Then I used it a few days later on a dry and not so good bantu-knot out and it made it look better! Odd, but I will run with it! It defined my curls and moisturized my strands. I love it ! I will definitely try more products from the Design Essentials Natural line. For sure.
Buy it again?
Yes.

4. The Tangle Teezer
I love it. I am happy with it. It works for my coarse 4b hair and definitely makes detangling a lot easier than it used to be – thus time moves a lot faster when styling! I recommend it to anyone who’s on the fence about it. You really don’t have anything to lose! I like it better than the Denman because it’s so flexible – yet it gets the tangles. Denman can potentially rip my hair out at times so… I like this one a lot better. I just think the Denman is a lot easier to clean.
Buy it again?
If I lose it, yeah for sure.

So that is it for today’s product review!
Hope it helped some folks and such! Stay tuned for a lot more – my next review will be on the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie! I love it so hard! My twist out came out PERFECT!!! The best twist out of my entire Natural Headed Life!

[Sunday Smoothies&Drinks] A.A.H - AlmonndMilk, Apples &...Horlicks?
8/18/2013 11:30:00 AM
HELLO!!
Alright, so here is an interesting smoothie I made for my Grandmother this afternoon. It’s main ingredients are APPLES, ALMOND MILK AND HORLICKS!
What’s Horlicks?
For those of you who don’t know what Horlicks is, I shall give you the quick rundown on it:
Horlicks is a malted milk powder.
Nutrition info for Horlicks with milk: 2 tablespoon horlicks + 200ml skim milk
- Energy: 189 calories
- Protein: 9.6 g
- Carbs: 27 g
- Fat: 4.3 g
(info. via http://www.healthguru.sg/learn-about-food/nutrition-info-calories-in-horlicks-malted-milk/)
It contained malted barely and wheat flour which is then mashed together in hot water to create sugars converted from starch. Dairy is then added. The water then evaporates in order to form a syrup.
This is dried to form a cake.
It is said to help promote sleep, however that isn’t exactly a certainty. It doesn’t always help me sleep. But it used to when I was a younger little girl.
This and Ovaltine are almost ALWAYS in a jamaican household, by the way. *bigupbigup*
ANYWAY, so thats a little bit about Horlicks. I am sure you can find it in your local grocery store.
ON TO THE DRINK!
INGREDIENTS:
Horlicks
2 APPLES
Almond milk ( Or your preferred milk)
Strawberry Syrup (optional)
EXTRA & OPTIONAL
Sweetened Condensed Milk
Vanilla
Chia, Flax & Hemp Seeds
PREPARATION!
Cut up your apples.
Throw them in the Magic Bullet or Blender or any other blending thing you have…
Add 3 tablespoons of Horlicks.
Add your Milk to your preferred flow of smoothie. (less if you like it THICK and more if you like it Thinner)
Add the optional ingredients to your preferred taste.
I added 1 teaspoon of condensed milk
2 table spoons of chia & flax seeds (together not seperately)
about a splash of vanilla or 1/8 teaspoons
and
my grandma got about 2 or 2 and a half table spoons of the Syrup.
ENJOY!
Decided to try and do my first OOTD and update you on how I am getting along with Shea Moisture..
A tutorial will be coming soon on how I did my mini twists and a SECRET I used on the bag of my head to not only (a) make it appear like I have a haircut but to also (b) enhance my curl pattern so that I didn't have to even twist it to begin with! On 4b - 4c hair! Well, I will admit that my back is more of a 3c-4a situation...but either way... IT SHALL BE COMING SOON!
